FAQ - Niche Scout

Q: What is Shark Score?
A: Shark Score is a measure of competitiveness. We take different attributes and feed it into a model we have tuned which, we believe, gives an accurate representation of the niche. The score is out of 100 and the higher the score, the more competitive we found that niche to be.  "More competitive" means that it is harder to compete - competitors are more entrenched, have more reviews etc. The keyword volume is only a small part of the calculation. The main concern for us is what work you'd need to do in order to compete.

Q: Okay, so I entered a niche term and I see numbers generated.  Now what?
A: Click on the niche you entered to be taken to a breakdown page.  Here you will see more specific averages and who holds the top spots on the first page of results in that category.  "1/1" means that product holds the coveted Page 1/Position 1 top spot on Amazon.  Click the blue arrow to be taken to a specific product's Amazon listing.

Q: Do these results update daily?
A: No.  The results you receive when you first enter a category into Niche Scout are a snapshot from the moment you enter them.  If you searched a certain category several days/weeks ago and want updated information, you can simply delete the old results and re-enter the category into the system.

Q: How are Average Sales Rank and Average Monthly Revenue estimated?
A: We extrapolate results from tracking daily sales.  We also look at the Sales Rank (or BSR) to create an estimate of monthly rank and revenue.

Q: What do the stars in each column represent?
A: The three-star system helps you view each aspect of a niche at-a-glance.  Three black stars means that the results are strong and positive.  Three unfilled stars (white stars) means it is not doing well in that particular category.

Q: How do I delete old niche searches?
A: Click the box located to the left of the niche.  Then press the red "Delete Selected" button at the top of the page.
